Explore climate economics and carbon pricing – build real tools for policymakers using integrated assessment models and AI in a project course
Subject areas
Energy & Sustainability, Leadership & Management
Course Duration
200 hours 16 weeks
Location
On site Chalmers University of Technology, Campus Johanneberg

About the course

Wind, solar, batteries, fossil free steel, electric vehicles, zero energy houses – We know many ingredients for the transition to a fossil-free future. But how do we make this happen in the Swedish or the world economy? Pricing carbon is a clever way to get everyone motivated and involved. But what is the right price?

In this project course you build something a real stakeholder can use, for example an online calculation tool based on an integrated assessment model (IAM). Seminars and workshops early in the course give the group a shared base in climate science, economics, ethics and policy. After that you work in teams, with supervision and a pool of experts you can book. Teachers and students use generative AI tools throughout, with structured discussions on how to use them soundly.

Who can apply

Everyone is welcome to apply: Chalmers students, PhD students, alumni and professionals, whatever your background. Each group applies in its own way, described under How to apply below.

These skills will equip you with a head start in working life. When you take a Tracks course, you also work in our brand-new makerspace: Fuse, which is a creative meeting place with 3D printers, a variety of studios, and workshops where your creativity can flourish.

If you have already attended Chalmers and chosen to take a Tracks course, you will have the advantage of familiarizing yourself with a current critical subject and building on your current knowledge. Together with other engineers, architects, and entrepreneurs of the future, you will gain new perspectives in your future professional life.

Most Tracks courses use Chalmers makerspace Fuse – a creative meeting place where education, research, industry and the community come together to test and implement ideas.
