About the course

This course gives professionals tasked with planning healthcare facility premises an in-depth understanding of how to plan spaces for healthcare and care services, grounded in current research and practice.

The course aims to develop participants’ ability to take on planning and design assignments for healthcare buildings and premises, starting from the needs and requirements of stakeholders and users. It also aims to support professional decision-making in the phases where frameworks, guidelines and content are determined, with operational value kept firmly in view.

  • The organisation, operations and properties of healthcare
  • The foundations of healthcare: care philosophy and underlying conditions
  • Evidence-based design and the significance of the care environment
  • Healthcare environments seen through the needs of different target groups
  • Healthcare environments, knowledge-based processes, methods and evidence
  • Healthcare environment tools: PTS and planning instruments
  • Healthcare construction: current challenges
  • Sustainability at the system level and within individual projects
