About the course

DP Simulator Course is the third step in the training programme to receive a DP-certificate. After the Induction course and a familiarisation period this course focuses more on different DP-operations, different errors and problems that can occur for the DP-operator. It also contains an update of the DP-principles, analysis of different DP-incidents and accidents, but the main focus of the course is to carry out complete DP-operations.

Course content

  • Rehearsal of DP-functions
  • Practical operation of the system
  • Different DP-practices and their procedures
  • DP-alarms, warnings and emergency procedures

Important information regarding the new standard

A new certification standard was implemented 1 January 2015. Due to the new certification standard the Nautical Institute demands that all DP-Simulator trainees take a theoretical test and a practical assessment test at the end of the simulator course. This is valid for trainees from the old standard too. If a trainee fails the test they will not pass the DP Simulator course.

During the test the trainee is demanded to individually put the vessel in DP Auto Positioning. The trainee is given the instructions before the start of the course.

According to the new regulations valid from 1 January 2016, students undertaking STCW-training can participate in the DP Simulator course. This is only valid for students in the new system which have passed both phase A and B.

For more information about the new standard, please contact DP-instructor Mats Gruvefeldt, +46 31 772 2239.
