About the course
Medical Care On Board, refresher, is a 4-day course combining lectures and practical exercises. Before the course starts, you’ll complete self-study estimated to take around 15–20 hours. The lectures and practical exercises take place in the medical training room of the Department of Mechanics and Maritime Sciences at Campus Lindholmen. On the final day of the course, you’ll practise selected patient cases through scenario exercises, both individually and in groups. Please note that the course does not include placement at a hospital.
By the end of the course, you’ll be able to correctly administer medication and carry out treatment measures on board, following the advice and instructions given by doctors ashore.
The course covers the basic medical knowledge required under STCW, with content corresponding to at least the requirements set out in Section A-VI/4, table A-VI/4-2.
