Have you been working ashore? Are you short of the sea service you need and looking to bring your knowledge up to date? Then this is the course for you.

We give you what you need to continue serving in marine engineer roles on board, and the chance to refresh and revalidate your professional competence. The course provides the necessary knowledge in accordance with TSFS 2011:116 and STCW Manila.

The course takes two working weeks to complete and combines theory and practice.

Among other things, you’ll learn about:

Legislation, environmental protection and maritime security: an overview of the relevant international and Swedish regulations concerning ship safety, personal safety and marine environmental protection

Watchkeeping: Engine Resource Management (ERM)

Ship technology: stability, ship resistance and maintenance systems

Operations technology, with theory and simulation covering start-up, continuous operation and fault-finding, among other things

Machinery, control and electrical engineering

STCW code

Regulation I/11; Section A-I/11.

Certification

To pass the course, attendance is compulsory and you must pass the practical elements in the simulator.

A pass on the course is reported directly to the Swedish Transport Agency and becomes visible in the seafarers’ register. You then apply for the certificate yourself from the Swedish Transport Agency, which charges a fee for this. This course provides the basis for renewed basic certification.

Anyone who has previously had the validity of their certificate extended through a revalidation course, and whose certificate has nonetheless expired, must, in order to have its validity extended further, either complete sea service in accordance with TSFS 2011:116 (consolidated version) or supplement their training in accordance with a specific decision by the Swedish Transport Agency.

If, at the time of application, the training or certificate is more than ten years old, counted from the day the training was completed or the certificate expired, it must be supplemented in the manner determined by the Swedish Transport Agency in order to serve as a basis for certification.

The revalidation course does not entitle the holder to a Ship Security Officer certificate. To obtain such a certificate, the seafarer must complete a Ship Security Officer course approved by the Swedish Transport Agency.

Please note that you also need the following certificates in order to obtain a new, full certification:

  • A valid medical fitness certificate
  • Basic Safety
  • Survival Craft and Rescue Boats
  • Advanced Fire Fighting (AFF)
  • Basic training in medical care

If you’re unsure, please contact the Swedish Transport Agency for information on what applies to you.
